Router
Some notes on how to use the site3 router and the software that controls it.
Toolchain
- CAD - Create design in InDesign/openSCAD, export .dxf using 1 unit = 1mm
- TODO: Try using OnShape instead of OpenSCAD.
- Or Fusion360 which can also be parametrized.
- CAM - Edit .dxf in Aspire, add toolpaths, export gcode (one per tool)
- Machine controller - Open gcode in Mach3, set origins, run and pray
Mach3
- Use the arrows and the home key to move the spindle.
- Jog: hit shift + arrows to move faster
Materials and speed
Set spindle speed and feedrate in Aspire. Can be overriden in Mach3 if required but unpractical. Do not overwrite tool presets in Aspire.
Plastic
- Engrave: spindle speed 12,000 rpm - feed rate 500 mm/min -> not perfect, still lots of burrs
- Profiling: spindle speed 10,000 rpm - feed rate 700 mm/min
