MDF

• Materials to know: Medium-Density Fiberboard (MDF)
  • This article mentions that MDF has been known to absorb only one component of a two-component resin. Do not use pieces of MDF as a base to mix two-part epoxy!

Delrin/Acetal

• Materials to know: Acetal and Delrin
• good for milling
• good for laser cutting

HDPE

• Similar to Delrin but different properties. Food-grade, nonstick, but softer, harder to mill with precision and not bondable.

Polystyrene foam (styrofoam)

• Expanded polystyrene (sagex) looks like tiny balls pressed together, usually white. Lighter, needs hot wire to cut cleanly.
• Extruded polystyrene is usually pink, blue or green, denser and "crunchier". Heavier, cuts well with knifes, can be "snapped" cleanly.

Tooling board

• Expensive material, but very stable, good for precision milling for e.g. molds. Tooling and modeling board
